I remember back when all companies were just trying to boast better graphics. They hammered us with claims of more polygons per frame, and smoother game play. More lifelike characters filled each and every package that was released. Those were good days for gamers and companies alike as it was civil in nature, with every one knowing where everyone else stood. At least in the “industry” that is how things were. If you stepped into the realms of the fans that you saw people slamming game X because Y has A/B/C and X has none of that. Or system 1 beats system 2 because you don’t need an external this or that.
Well, like all things, those times are changing. It seems that be big boys are taking note of how Xbots and PS3 Fanboys play the game, and make a few plays of their own.
Example 1 comes from the military shooter genre. I am sure that most readers know that Modern Warfare 2 was a BIG thing last year. However, many of you will also remember that it was riddled with more holes than most cared for. This lead to Battlefield: Bad Company 2 doing what gamers did best, mocking the competition.
Now, in case you haven’t played the single player campaign for bad Company 2 I need to let you in on this video from you tube.
Yes, boys and girls, they did in fact go there. But that’s not the only “kick to the jimmy” that was given to MW2. Oh no, things are taken to another level with the introduction of the Bad Company PSA.
This was a huge blow to a video that was produced by the MW2 team to warn about grenade spamming. The title of this PSA (from MW2) was so vulgar that it was pulled after a massive outcry from gamers. Bad move IW/Activision, bad move indeed.
But, this slamming of the competition doesn’t stop with game developers. As is a case of “what’s good for the goose is good for the gander,” Sony took a MAJOR swing at both the leader in market sales (Nintendo’s Wii) and their ‘primary’ competition (Microsoft’s XBox 360 – Natal) with a video that is so outlandish, is has to be seen to believe.
