E3 2010: Sony Press Conference Round Up

Sony Press Conference, PS3, Playstation Plus, GT5, Medal of Honor, Killzone 3, Valve

On the June 14th,, the eyes of the gaming world were directed towards Microsoft as it held its E3 conference.  But the question yesterday was whether or not Sony could match the announcement of the new Xbox 360 “Slim” and how would Sony’s Move shape up against Microsoft’s Kinect? Decide for yourself with my guide to what you need to know about the Sony E3 Press Conference!

  • 3D will be big and in your face (in both senses) – Sony is really keen on pushing this on the PS3.
  • Killzone 3 was shown: it’s pretty, the levels look substantially bigger and it will be Move compatible (Here’s to hoping to be able to do the movement for snapping necks).
  • The long rumoured premium service, Playstation Plus, has been announced.  For $50 a year, you’ll get exclusive DLC, full games trials, early beta and demo access and auto patching (I can’t wait for my exclusive Home apartment!).
  • They’ve also grabbed themselves some free PS3 exclusive downloadable content for Medal of Honour, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Dead Space 2 and Mafia II (It’s free, I can’t complain).
  • Steamworks is coming to the PS3, so is Portal 2; but the biggest surprise of all? Gabe Newell actually likes the PS3.
  • The next Twisted Metal will be coming to PS3 in 2011, and the multiplayer will be crazy.
  • The US release date for Gran Turismo 5 has been confirmed – November 2nd (about damn time)!
  • The re-mastered versions of all three Sly Cooper games will be available in the Sly Cooper Collection, supporting 3D on the PS3 (what more could you ask for? Your favourite small forest dwelling mammal in 3D)!
  • The Move was shown and is looking very nice.  A release date and pricing scheme have also been announced.  It will be released on the 15th of September in Europe, the 19th in the US and the 21st of October in Japan. The main controller will cost $50, the sub controller $20 and a bundle with both controller and the PS Eye for $100 (and if that wasn’t a low enough price, you won’t have to pay to play with your friends over the internet).
  • And don’t worry about games for the Move;  over 40 developers will be working with the Move (hopefully they’ll be making stuff other than casual shovelware).

I’m sure you’ll agree that was quite the show Sony put on and they had some great announcements,  but do you have any reservations or did you simply love everything there? Leave a comment below and make sure you look out for further Sony coverage in the coming days.
