Ok, so MellyCat told me a long time ago that she had never been to a gun range, nor had she really ever fired a gun. And no, the BB guns at the county fair do NOT, in my eyes, count as “guns”.
So, to resolve this, we set up an outing to a local outdoor range over the weekend. Let me tell you, it was something that I don’t think any of us will ever forget!
To start things off, Melly was put behind the trigger of a .22LR bolt-action rifle (a rifle my father has owned for ages, and the first one I ever fired). After showing her how the bolt worked and how to reload, she was quite happy shooting away at the targets down range. Each round sent downrange made her smile a bit more, and she started to get into a rhythm. Her shot groupings were nice (seeing as the rifle was not zeroed in), and she seemed to enjoy the weapon.
Then, we sent her over to the pistol range to take on yet another .22LR, this time it was a 1911. She only spent a few rounds here, as she soon realized that the kick from a pistol was a bit much for her. In her defense, I, too, am a bit put off by pistols as I haven’t spend much time on them.
Last but certainly not least, we get to the main event. My friend Ken wanted to see how Melly responded to a bullet a bit BIGGER than the .22LR.

Yes, we did in fact place an AK-47 in the hands of Mellycat. She ended up putting 10 rounds through it and, as the video shows, had a great time doing so.
Later this week, we will have more footage from the outing, so check back to see Nico firing as well!
