Resident Evil 6 Announced With Official Trailer

Resident Evil 6 LogoIt was bound to happen, and recent rumors of the next numbered game in one of Capcom’s biggest and brightest franchises coming this year are true. This time, Chris Redfield and Leon Kennedy take center stage, with the whole shebang taking place in China. If there were a Resident Evil: Greatest Hits cast to show up, this is it, as the trailer gives glimpses of Leon Kennedy’s eyes in the sky, Hunnigan, and speculation-wise, I could have sworn I heard the president’s daughter from Resident Evil 4 in there.

Here’s the press release, straight from Capcom.

“Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, is very proud to announce that Resident Evil 6 is in full development and scheduled for release on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system on November 20, 2012 with a Windows PC version to follow. Blending action and survival horror, this latest instalment in the multi-million selling franchise is the most ambitious, immersive and feature rich title of the series to date and promises to be the dramatic horror experience of the year.

Resident Evil 6 Leon Kennedy

Leon Kennedy ready for action!

It has been ten years since the Raccoon City incident and the President of the United States has decided to reveal the truth behind what took place in the belief that it will curb the current resurgence in bioterrorist activity. Due to be by the President’s side is his personal friend and Raccoon City survivor, Leon S. Kennedy, but when the venue suffers a bioterrorist attack, Leon is forced to face a President transformed beyond recognition and make his hardest ever decision. At the same time, Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance member Chris Redfield arrives in China, itself under threat of a bioterrorist attack.  With no country safe from these attacks and the ensuing outbreaks, the entire world’s population is united by a common fear that there is no hope left.

In a first for the franchise, Resident Evil 6 sees series favorites Leon and Chris come together to face this unprecedented threat. They will be joined by new characters, each with their own unique perspective and involvement, in this relentless dramatic horror experience enacted on a global scale.”

Resident Evil 6 Chris Redfield

Chris Redfield returns!

Producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi adds: “From the outset the team’s intention was to create an experience that delivers a gripping storyline, tense single-player and co-op action all set against a constant theme of horror.” Hopefully they’ll stick to the horror niche that made Resident Evil notable during the PlayStation/Nintendo 64 era. I’m glad that they’re going back to the zombies route, though this may continue the trend of Resident Evil turning into more of an action series than a horror series. I’m fine with that, as long as the controls aren’t as dated as they were in Resident Evil 5. It’s a nice turn of events that there’s a solid November 20 release date, because so many games are being pushed or delayed. Though, I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets pushed to March or April of next year, let’s hope this will be the best Resident Evil yet.

God Damn that looks pretty! That one monster looks more evil than the Nemesis!

Very excited for this. Leon, Chris, Ingrid, Krauzer (?), Ashley (looks like her, but I hope not) – gonna be quite a cast. It looks like Leon’s portions will be the slow horror we want while Chris’s stuff will be the action from RE5. I’m just glad it (hopefully) won’t be a Michael Bay experience like 5 was.

Between this and Revelations, it’s gonna be a big year for RE.
