Resident Evil 6 and the Controversy

Resident Evil 6 LogoAfter some mysterious, viral, live-action videos, Resident Evil 6 has officially been announced. Along with the announcement came a three- minute long, incredibly gorgeous trailer showing off the game and some of its new features. While I personally loved the trailer, it appears some fans of the series were a little shocked at the direction the game was going.

Gears of Evil seems to be one of the most popular names being tossed around in the comments section below the video. Resident Evil always had this tradition of not being able to move whilst aiming, which added to the intensity of the game and the feeling that you were always vulnerable. The new trailer doesn’t only throw that old idea out of the window, but incorporates a very Gears of War-like cover and sprinting system. Many hardcore fans were outraged and fear that the series is moving in a mainstream direction, ditching the uniqueness of the franchise for a more popular and familiar type of gameplay. Some controversy also regarded the “military” feel of the game, with special operations units being dropped into the action, helicopters, radios, and the like.

Overall, there is no denying that the game looks amazing, and despite dropping some of its trademark features, Resident Evil 6 will be met with huge acclaim this fall. Personally, I think this is the direction Capcom should have taken. In order to attract a larger audience, a game must change and adapt to the current standards. I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out RE6 won’t have health for characters in order to replace that with the “bloody screen” of today.

What are your opinions regarding the changes Capcom made to the game? Let us know in the comments below!

P.S. Did you hear the woman in the trailer say the infected population is estimated at 70,000? I’M CALLING IT NOW: RE6 will feature an achievement which involves killing 70,000 zombies. You heard it here first!

Spineless mainstream piece of shit. “Should’ve went this way along time ago.” Go play gears if you’re too much of a pussy for Resident Evil 1.
