You know, it can’t all be puppies and sunshine with these video game care packages like our last care one, PROJECT FREELANCER. Sometimes, we get unhappy requests from folks who are having a tough go of things, and this one, from LaSean from an engineering route clearance unit, is about as tragic as they come:
First, let me say thank you for reading this, because that means you are supportive of us as well as others in this fight and that is greatly appreciated. My name is XXX LaSean XXXXX. My unit and I just suffered an HORRIFIC lost in just the first nine weeks of a 12-month tour out in Afghanistan , so I was hoping that a care package from you guys would help ease the pain a little for the guys that are still here in the fight.
I was in the 8th truck; (there were) five soldiers were in the 3rd truck of our convoy. We were all out on a mission when they ran over an IED (Editor’s note: improvised explosive device). We were able to save one of my soldiers in that truck. THANK GOD FOR THAT!
In closing, the list that was provided maybe long, but it was me just thinking of what they would be interested in if I was able to get it myself. I am not asking for everything EITHER, but anything we/they can get to play and relax a little would be AMAZING! Thank you for your time. GAME ON!
any fighting or boxing/UFC games(PS3 & XBOX)
any sports games(basketball,football,soccer,baseball,tennis,golf,etc(PS3 & XBOX)
2 extra PS3 controllers
2 extra Xbox controllers
whatever new or old computer games that these guys would love to play
External hard drive
For those of you not familiar with a “route clearance” unit, they’re folks who drive up and down major roads in Afghanistan and clear it from explosive threats like IEDs. It’s not like a stray mortar rounded landed on these guys while they were chilling out by the MWR (Morale, Health and Welfare) facility ; these guys were probably right back out on the road the next day doing the same damn thing…and they’ve got 10+ more months of that noise before they can get home to their loved ones.
That’s a hard tour.
Okay, I want a full court press here, people. If you can’t donate, fine…but help us Tweet, Facebook, Digg, and whatever social media that you choose to use to help us get the word out. Help us raise money to fill this box full of games and gear to LaSean and his company; they’ve got a hell of a long time left in country and losing four guys right out of the gate like this is a tough start.
Use the Chipin link on the right side of either Front Towards Gamer.com or Operation Supply Drop.org to make a cash donation, or you can simply send your used games to the following address to make the next care package:
