It’s been some time since I have checked on the fast paced, mech fighter Hawken. It appears some very welcome news has given us something to look forward to with the Unreal powered game. Sign-ups for the closed beta have finally opened up for participants! If the trailers have inspired you, it would be wise to submit your intent to play as soon as possible. As it stands right now, Hawken is advising possible players to invite friends in order to reserve your chosen callsign before the actual launch. According to an e-mail received after signup:

You have elected to take part in the Hawken closed beta.
Enlist three friends by sharing the link below and we’ll reserve your callsign before training begins.You are free to fight 12.12.12.
Not only have beta signups started for Hawken, but two greatly important pieces of information have been released as well. First, the announcement has been made that the game is going to go into the free-to-play model. A wise move on the part of Adhesive Games, as that is becoming the go-to model for online games these days. The second is perhaps the biggest announcement of all, a release date. Slated for 12/12/12, the game is looking to make an impact before the end of the year.
