Bethesda has been dropping some massive news bombs on the gaming world lately. Today they announced that the upcoming sequel, Prey 2 will not make the release window for 2012 as anticipated. According to the official Bethesda blog,
“the delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does not currently meet our quality standards.”
If you ask me, that’s a pretty good reason to hold back the release of the game. Bethesda releases some of the better games to the market in modern day, but we don’t need another incident like Fallout: New Vegas or the problems PS3 owners had with Skyrim. I’m all for waiting for a game to actually be finished when released instead of being unplayable.
There was another offering that struck me as a little bit odd when it came to the Prey 2 announcement. The posting goes on to say,
“We have made a substantial investment in game development to deliver the experience fans want. We are determined only to release the AAA game that fans rightfully expect, and are unwilling to compromise our quality standards to meet a release schedule.”
Well Bethesda if you are looking to create the experience that fans want and rightfully expect, how about you invest some of this extra time making the story about Tommy again? I’m still confused about the logic of reducing him to a secondary character. Could you look into that? Hmm?
