Activision rolled out its premier trailer for their new game in the Call of Duty franchise during the NBA Playoffs on Tuesday, but it left many with some questions. So we are here to answer some of them with what we know so far.
We already know that Call of Duty: Black Ops II will be set in the near future, but now according to Activision it will be primarily in the year 2025 with some jumping into the 1980’s. My guess is that it will be in the form of flashbacks ala the first game. The will be a Cold War, with Raul Menendez as the primary villain. You will see Menendez in both time periods and learn how he plays a role in both Cold Wars. Some how this enemy has taken control of our unmanned fighting force of robot tanks, planes, and drones and is using them against us. Treyarch is promising branching storylines and player choice with characters lives actually playing into the decisions you make and thus changing the games outcome. The only two locations that have been revealed are Los Angeles and Singapore.
Strike Force Operations appear to be an open sandbox where you must complete a mission. The result of that mission will affect your campaign much like Mass Effect 3, but during these missions you will be able to play several different ways. You can watch from above or take control of an individual soldier, or most anything in between. And yes this means the Quadrotor.
Zombies will be using the Multiplayer engine, allowing for a bigger and more expansive experience. Also promised are new and different ways to combat the zombies and new game modes. On the Multiplayer front very little is actually known except that Treyach is claiming that it will be approachable to those of all skill levels and play styles. Another addition is the graphical upgrade. While this applies to the game as a whole, the most impressive part is maintaining a good visual quality at 60 frames-per-second in multiplayer.
As usual we will be learning more as the November 13th release date gets closer and we will pass that information on to you as it becomes available.
