A few days ago, we reported that Game Informer released a very enigmatic cover of what we thought was a hand cuffed Marcus Fenix. Oh boy, were we wrong. Today they officially unveiled not one, but two covers and the title of the next chapter in Epic Game’s franchise: Gears of War: Judgment.
If you have played the games or read the novels, Gears of War starts with Marcus Fenix being released from jail by his child hood friend, Dominic Santiago for abandoning his post on a rescue mission to his father. So when reports showed a shadowy figure in custody, it was an easy assumption that the next Gears would be a prequel. Now that the covers are officially revealed, it is even safer to say that fourth installment is indeed a prequel. How can you tell? Look at the faces of Baird and Cole. Baird doesn’t have the weathered and scarred facial features, while Cole looks considerably younger and not as muscular.

So while the two covers answer a lot of questions, they also bring up many more. Why is Baird and Cole in custody? What city is being over run by the Locust? Are Marcus and Dom returning? Does the story take place when Baird and Cole were in Charlie Squad? Now while Game Informer reveals the cover, they are letting Microsoft unveil the rest at their E3 press conference next week.
