During their press conference, Sony showed off a new video for the upcoming Playstation All-Stars: Battle Royale. This footage shows new attacks for existing characters and – more importantly – two new fighters. Before we go into detail, let’s take a look at said video.
Before we discuss the new contenders, let’s take a look at some other nuggets in the video. We catch a glimpse of both PaRappa and Radec’s super attacks: PaRappa flies around with a jetpack while dropping bombs, and Radec fires a screen-filling laser akin to Samus’ final smash in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
The meat of the video is, of course, the debut of two new characters: Uncharted‘s Nathan Drake and Bioshock‘s Big Daddy. Unfortunately, we don’t see much of Drake in the clip, but by other accounts, he uses a range of guns and explosives, including a super attack involving an exploding gas tank. This is the expected moveset for the treasure hunter, but his inclusion is nonetheless pleasing. The Big Daddy can also be seen wrecking house in the video; he seems to be a heavy hitter with surprising agility. As the first third-party character to be revealed, this is a real get for Playstation All-Stars. His inclusion means the doors are wide open for character speculation: it’s not just Sony characters here.
Also of note is the fact that the now-confirmed Vita version of the game will have full cross-platform play with the PS3 version. Oddly enough, the next Super Smash Bros. entry will support the same connectivity between the 3DS and WiiU versions. But hey, this isn’t the time to compare the two games.
Playstation All-Stars: Battle Royale is slated to release in 2012, most likely during the holiday season. Be sure to check here at Front Towards Gamer and the offical game site for more character reveals as they happen.
