The new Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC was just released and of course gamers decided to probe around in the code. When they got there they found an interesting surprise, code for a new batch of DLC entitled Leviathan. Hidden in the code is incomplete dialogue from the main crew describing a mining colony that had been indoctrinated by a Reaper defector. The dialogue doesn’t show the choices you will have as Shepard, they are set up as if you were walking around the Normandy SR-2 talking to the crew members. As such there are a string of “I can’t believe that happened” type responses from multiple people. While they may not be whole conversations they paint a pretty detailed picture none the less.
Commander Shepard is sent into an asteroid mining colony to retrieve a doctor who had managed to escape the indoctrination. Along the way Shepard figures out that this Reaper is named Leviathan and had defected from the rest of the Reaper army. The colonists had been indoctrinated for the past 10 years and what the crew saw deeply affected them. After talking with Leviathan Shepard strikes a deal to get the colonists released. There is much discussion about how their new Reaper ally isn’t to be trusted and the effects of being indoctrinated for 10 years. There also seems to be a lot of talk about someone being in love with Shepard (Liara I believe). This leads to the big fight with the Reapers, only this time you have one of your own. After what is sure to be a grueling fight everyone is disturbed by the events that took place on the asteroid mining colony. There are a lot of “It feels good to get those people their lives back. 10 years is a lot of lost time.” style responses. This appears to be the end of the storyline.
Some of the interesting things to note from this are that the dialogue makes mention of the Reapers creators which have only been hinted at up to this point. On top of that the Reapers didn’t fully kill off their creators, which they had done with every other species they had gone after. This indicates that there may be plans to include the creators species in future DLC or another game. With the amount of times that “I love you Shepard” or something to that extent is uttered leads me to think the DLC will take place around the time you have the romantic encounter in the main story, so the last 15% of the game. It also appears as if you can get Leviathan as a war asset towards you fight against the Reaper invasion. My big question is if this sheds light on the creators of the Reapers that was alluded to in the Extended Cut DLC will BioWare further adjust the ending? I guess we will have to wait to find out. What do you think of the route Bioware is taking with the story? Is this further proof that Indoctrination theorists need to prove their point? Let us know in the comments below.
