Street Fighter got all the love on Friday, but yesterday was the day for the other guys to show their stuff. As day two of EVO 2012 started with a bit of a simmer there weren’t as many upsets as one would expect, but there were plenty to go around. Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was the star yesterday, no doubt. Legends like Justin Wong and Combofiend go at it in a display of fighting not seen by many people, but you still saw your fair share of some great matches of SoulCalibur V, Street Fighter X Tekken, and Mortal Kombat. Let’s see some of the highlights.
Starting out with a bang, we see fighting game legend Justin Wong sent to the loser’s bracket as his Akuma is taken out by Combofiend’s Hawkeye. Hopefully they meet again, as it was a wonderful match.
Over in Outworld, we see some great Mortal Kombat play by Coco M2 Dave and Chris G, as Chris’ Reptile couldn’t stand up to Freddy’s claws under Coco’s command. But, Chris G. isn’t known as the one of the top Mortal Kombat players, his true talents reside in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, as you’ll see below.
Hands down my favorite match of the night, a true comeback story for Chris G, who had all but given up after the first round defeat by Scrubeks. But Chris’ Morrigan would turn out to be too much for Scrubek’s pesky MODOK, as a lucky combo and level 3 move secured Chris G. a spot in the finals (later in the loser’s bracket, sadly).
Now, just because some of these people have lost, it doesn’t mean you have seen them for the last time, as today, the finals begin, in winners and losers brackets. Here’s the breakdown for the two biggest games, just as an example.
