Rockstar Games Closes a Studio and Makes One Stronger

Rockstar’s two Canadian teams did a fantastic job in bringing Max Payne back to life. Such a good job, it seems like they will be working together from now on.

Announced today, Rockstar will be moving members of its Vancouver division, who were known for making Bully, to combine with Rockstar Toronto, the company behind such games like GTA IV, The Warriors, and the original Max Payne franchise.

According to Jennifer Kolbe, the VP of Publishing and Operations for Rockstar Games, this will be able to open more than 50 positions, due to a partnership with the Ontario Government.

If these two studios can collaborate together as well as they did for Max Payne 3, this will be a fantastic merger.

While this irks me that they closed down an entire studio, I am excited to see what this new super studio can bring to the table. I just hope it isn’t an Activision scenario where they just use them as floaters to help with other games.
