In 2004, Thomas Jane starred as Frank Castle in The Punisher. It’s a story about an FBI agent and former U.S. Army Delta Force operator whose wife and son is brutally murdered in front of him. He doesn’t seek revenge, he seeks punishment. Although the movie didn’t hit box office records like The Avengers, The Punisher made Thomas Jane a legend as a fan favorite to portray the character.
At this years San Diego Comic Con, Jane released an unofficial short film that he starred in. Be on the look out for a special cameo from a fellow action star.
”I wanted to make a fan film for a character I’ve always loved and believed in – a love letter to Frank Castle & his fans. It was an incredible experience with everyone on the project throwing in their time just for the fun of it. It’s been a blast to be a part of from start to finish — we hope the friends of Frank enjoy watching it as much as we did making it.”
Even though The Punisher was neither a huge success in the box office or in the eyes of critics, I really loved Thomas Jane as Frank Castle. I wasn’t a big fan of John Travolta as the bad guy, but I felt that in the right script and director, Thomas Jane could have been in an entire trilogy. Here is hoping Marvel and Disney pay attention to fans’ reaction to this short film and give The Punisher a proper reboot with Thomas Jane in the lead role.
