Marvell and OnLive Team Up for Next Console

The cloud gaming company OnLive is teaming up with Marvell, a leader in the world of silicon solutions, storage and communications, to create what could be the future of video gaming. Using Google TVs and Google TV devices, OnLive is planning on using Marvell’s technology to bring on-demand gaming to gamers. To do this, OnLive will be using Marvell’s ARMADA 1500 HD Media SoC to power the on-demand gaming.

Co-Founder of Marvell Weili Dai believes, “This is a major breakthrough that demonstrates Google TV’s progress in addressing the interactive big screen for any type of live content. We are thrilled to collaborate with OnLive in transforming any TV with gaming capabilities.”

Onlive Founder and CEO Steve Perlman went on to say, “OnLive’s focus is to make the highest quality gaming accessible to everyone, anywhere and anytime they want it. With Marvell under the hood, we are able to deliver the highest-quality, on-demand gaming experience on groundbreaking devices and systems like Google TV.” He continued by commenting on the ARMADA 1500, stating it is “an impressively high-performance, low-power SoC that accommodates OnLive’s highly advanced technology and delivers a mind-blowing gaming experience.”

With OnLive’s policy of supporting the top smart devices and combining it with a unique and accessible user experience, the game company has now integrated their streaming game service with next-gen Google TVs and streaming devices, making video games much more accessible to those without a gaming console.

I don’t see a problem with it. I think it, like the Ouya, can be something different, and simply just that. I like that with the upcoming Ouya and possibly this, that gamers are getting more choices for how they want to game.
