Wrasslin’ Wrap Up for 07-30-12 to 08-27-12

Actually, it’s by Coward Duck

It was a week that followed one of the most momentous weeks in the history of professional wrestling. How it come off? Pretty much like they had no idea what was supposed to come next.

AJ ain’t Crazy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdENFCbfB2Q

An annoying habit of WWE is they take something that’s catching fire, and dosing it so its stupid. R-Truth is a great example of this. When he turned, he became insanely over thanks to his over-the-top psycho gimmick was done well. Oh top of that, I would dare put his promos on par with the likes of Macho Man and The Ultimate Warrior in terms of promo’s so nonsensical they were ingenious. Then Vince decided to change the gimmick because he wanted to sell a Lil’ Jimmy t-shirt. Jimmy went from being a term he used for kid audience members to his “imaginary friend”. Truth at this point stopped being unique and he’s been lost in midcard hell since.

They’re doing the same thing now with AJ. Her gimmick was she was a crazy chick, empathizes on crazy.  One week she was purposing to wrestlers, another week she was dressed as Kane, and other week she was attempting suicide! You never knew what you were going to get. That changed this week as AJ entered her first week as the new RAW GM… and she was completely sane.

This week AJ just became GM with a vendetta against Punk and Bryan, because that triangle will never end. She used her new found power to torture Bryan through a beating by Sheamus, and then a psych evaluation. She then forced Punk into a triple threat at Summerslam against John Cena and Big Show. Also, every match she made wasn’t crazy or weird; you could have told me Teddy Long was the GM, and I would have bought it. The crazy spontaneity is gone and so is the character.

So sadly it looks like crazy AJ is at an end. It sucks, but she’s a talented girl. Hopefully she can make this new persona work.

Summerslam Main Event: CM Punk vs. John Cena vs. Big Show for the WWE Title

As mentioned, AJ made what will be the Main Event of Summerslam (because John Cena is in it)  for the WWE Title. Finally.

I believe we can all agree this will be a great match. All three guys are incredible at what they do. The big question on everyone’s mind is who’s going to win. Big Show, I don’t think we need to worry about. Big show is very much just there to make the match look good. He’ll yell, he’ll toss Punk and Cena like rag dolls, and he’ll look like a monster- and then he’ll lose. Because Show can lose over and over again, but he’ll always be taken seriously because he’s a big dude. So he doesn’t need the belt.

It’s going to have to come down to Cena and Punk. CM Punk I think WWE is finally serious about making him a star. He’s been champ for a long time, and he’s gotten clean wins over some big names. He’s got a DVD coming out, and he’s got the cover of WWE’13 (which begs the question why turn him heel, but I digress). Plus the fact Cole mentions every week just how long he’s had it for is a good sign. Logically, especially after the heel turn, you’d want to keep the belt on Punk and continue to build his name.

However, you have John Cena. WWE loves this guy (duh), and they’re just looking for an excuse to put the belt back on him. Especially considering how he got own’d by Rock at Wrestlemania, and destroyed by Brock Lesnar. Meaning he has a thank you coming his way, and giving him a 12th title reign would do that. Fact is anytime Cena is in a match, there’s always a chance he’s getting the belt.

Regardless, it should be good!

The Daniel Bryan Show starring Daniel Bryan!

Last week, there was a bit of unhappiness about the possibility of Daniel Bryan facing off against Charlie Sheen at Summerslam, and why wouldn’t there be? If it’s going to be a match, Charlie’s going over. And given he’s a drug addict and Daniel Bryan is one of the top wrestler’s in the world, it makes no freaking sense and can be viewed as an insult. Also, why is WWE caring about Charlie Sheen? No cares anymore.

However, there is a positive. Fun fact: If you added up all the Daniel Bryan segments, you get roughly 57 minutes. Meaning a third of the show was dedicated to D-Bry. Is it due to the fact its to promote a match up with a guy who will probably never be on RAW? Yes, but all of this is to Daniel Bryan’s benefit. Sides that, everything with Bryan was gold! His Street Fight with Sheamus was hands down the match of the night, and his psych test was really funny! In other words ENTERTAINING. If WWE finds you entertaining, you will be used and the future looks good for you.

The big thing I want to mention is how the psych test ended, and that’s with Kane jumping Bryan and saying he’s his new anger management coach. This can mean one thing, and that’s WWE isn’t stupid. They realize the value in Bryan, and they want to protect him. Meaning we’ll probably get Bryan vs. Kane with Charlie Sheen in his corner. A loss there won’t hurt as much, Charlie gets his moment, and everyone will be “winning”.

Booker T is no longer a Commentator!

Check out Botchedspot.com!

And he’s the new GM of Smackdown!

This one was met with mixed feelings from me. I was very happy to have Booker T out of the announce booth. Those who have heard him know what I’m talking about, the guy is nonsensical, literally just catchphrases put together to call a match. So here we have an announcer who’s terrible at his job, so what do you do? Fire him? Nope, you promote him to be the GM. Also called pulling an Adamle.

Granted having Booker T off commentary is great, but now he’s in charge of the back? Before you can hope for some sort of change, he also hires back Teddy Long to be his Advisor. I see a lot of tag matches in the blue brands future. And to be fair, and it kills me to type this, but it’s just Smackdown. Yes, back in the day Smackdown was the best wrestling show on TV, but times have changed. Really what happens on that show anymore? We get a number one contender for World Title, and that’s it. So if Booker T is running RAW, who cares?

At any rate, we are hopefully at least done with Booker on commentary at PPVs, which makes the money spent all the more worth it.

And now for something completely different…

So of you may have heard the rumors of WWE signing international superstar PAC. Sadly, not too many of you know who he is and why this is awesome news. So check out this video of the top 20 moves of this amazing, amazing high flyer.

Till next time!
