God of War: Ascension Game Director Todd Papy recently announced that PlayStation Plus members would be the first to get a shot at trying out the ambitious online multiplayer of the upcoming title. The open beta is a result of the development team wishing to receive as much community feedback as possible to craft “the best experiences possible.”
Papy goes on to discuss the story aspect of the online multiplayer. After your initial choice in the beginning, pledging your allegiance to a single deity which will determine your play style and special attacks, Papy describes the story as something you will “discover at launch.” Whether he meant the beta launch or actual game is unclear. Either way, the story concerns how you came to be a warrior in the world represented in the online multiplayer.
Favor of the Gods, the signature multiplayer of the beta consists of earning enough points (favor points) so your team can gain victory. Annihilating enemies, as well as capturing territory will be essential to earning points. Not only will points determine a winner, the more points you earn, the more special abilities or events you will unlock to give your team an edge.
No specific date has been announced for the beta availability, but more info will be released as God of War: Ascensions’s release date of March 12, 2013.
