After Eight Years, We Can Truly Return to Black Mesa

Half-Life, Source Mod, Black Mesa, Valve, PC, Steam

Fans were beginning to wonder if the remake of the original Half-Life, simply titled Black Mesa, would ever see the light of day. Hopeful gamers can rest easy now as Black Mesa’s project leader Carlos Montero recently told Polygon in an interview that the game will be released on September 14th. What started out as a project from a volunteer development team has finally come to fruition.

Montero’s development team had a strenuous attention to detail attitude and wanted to give fans the true remake they deserved. The development team has a whole mess of screenshots, concept art, and detailed redesigns up on their website for you to browse through and see just how much of an upgrade the visuals have received. Screenshots not enough? Then you can also check out the official trailer for Black Mesa below and see everything in motion.

I have never played the first Half-Life game, but I want to give this a shot. I just wish it wasn’t done in segments. This looks so damn pretty.

Half-Life 2 is one of my favorite games ever, and Half-Life 1 is pretty awesome itself. This looks so good, I’m glad those who never got a chance can experience it like this.

I agree, Half-Life 2 is one of my favorites. Bring on 3 damn it. But I digress. This would be a great entry point, especially since they appear to be expanding certain areas of the game, so that would explain the “episodic” nature of the release schedule. Still this looks to be what more companies should allow if fans would like to remake/expand upon their games.
