BioWare, keeping with the two-a-month special events for Mass Effect 3′s multiplayer, unveiled Operation Vigilance. It isn’t that daring, but you have to keep your trigger finger at bay – get through a full match without using any disposable equipment. That means no rockets, auto-revives, insta-heals, and ammo packs. Here’s the word from BioWare themselves.
Unexpected attacks have taken out several squads and damaged vital Alliance equipment. We will deploy drones to repair damage and investigate the nature of these attacks.
Squad Goal: Complete up to and including wave 10 on any difficulty without using a consumable (medi-gel, ammo, Ops pack or Cobra missile launcher).
Allied Goal: Complete 250,000 escort missions on any difficulty.
Special Circumstance: None
Squad Goal Success: All individual players awarded a Commendation Pack
Allied Goal Success: All players awarded a Victory Pack
So, it isn’t the most difficult of challenges, but you have to make sure you don’t accidentally use the ammo pack or rockets, items I use very frequently throughout matches. Obviously, if you want to get through the challenge without much effort, give it a go on bronze. Specifically, I find Cerberus to be the most manageable, you just have to watch out for Engineer Turrets. Adepts and Vanguards can go nuts here, so keep that in mind.
There are no special circumstances this go around, and to that I give a collective *WHEW*. As per usual, you’ll get a Commendation Pack for doing the challenge, and if the community at large completes 250K escort missions, we’ll all get a Victory Pack. There’s nothing we can do to speed up the escort missions other than to keep playing and playing, so keep that in mind. Personally, I hope to see some really difficult squad goals in the future, but with a loftier reward. Happy hunting!
