Operation Supply Drop’s CRIMSON OMEN Care Package Arrives in Afghanistan!

Hot on the heels of our nationwide Veteran’s Day event, the 8-Bit Salute to Veterans, we got back pictures of our joint Epic Games/Operation Supply Drop care package, code named CRIMSON OMEN.

It is always nice when people follow directions.  I asked them to take pics with the Epic Games shirts on, and boom.  They take pics with the Epic Games’ shirts on.  See? It wasn’t that hard!

Anyway, here’s Jaron giving his thanks for our $2000 box of games and goodies that was sent his way:

We all want to say a HUGE thank you to Shanghai Six (Stephen Machuga), Operation Supply Drop, Epic Games, along with all those who
donated to Crimson Omen!  The care package is absolutely amazing!  The Xbox 360 has been set up and the gaming has begun!  Some
guys are playing games, others are reading books, and morale has been boosted all around.  It was a mad house in our office the night we
opened the package and started handing out games, smiles were on everyone’s faces, a much needed change of pace in the deployment, and
a notable difference in attitudes.  Even our non-gamers were excited to get books and Ranger Coffee (much better than the commercial grade
coffee they’d been getting from the chow hall).  I’m not sure but I think we spammed enough people to possibly set a cash donation record
for Operation Supply Drop for one care package. Once again we want to say thank you to Operation Supply Drop and Epic Games for your major contributions.  If you’ve considered donating or supporting troops at all, this is the organization to support, they know how to do it right!

Oh, but but but wait! It gets better! If you act now, you not only get a heartfelt letter of appreciation, but Operation Supply Drop’s very first video submission thank you letter!

So, we’re gearing up for the “Largest Ball of Twine in Minnesota” sized event in celebration of our Veterans Day, the 8-Bit Salute to Veterans.  If you missed the first announcement, we’re throwing parties and events across the US in Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington DC, New York City and Dallas to raise money and awareness for Operation Supply Drop in order to send out even bigger and badder ass care packages in the future.  One day, I dream of being able to send brand spanking new Xbox 360s and PS3s, as opposed to my looking on eBay, Craigslist and Amazon for older systems, and hopefully it’s going to be this event that will fund the charity for fiscal year 2013 (that’s the hope anyway!).  We’ve already had some pretty amazing donation promises from a variety of organizations including Rooster Teeth, Project Triforce, Plantronics, and Tripwire Games, and that’s only after 48 hours!

How can you get involved?  Well, I’ll just go ahead and slap up the press release again, you savvy gamer types should be able to figure it out.

 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Gamers Nationwide to Collect Consoles, Video Games for U.S. Troops

Events Across the U.S. Will Raise Funds to Distribute on Veterans Day

LOS ANGELES – Sept. 11, 2012 – Parties organized by gamers across America this fall will raise funds to send video games and consoles to U.S. troops deployed to Afghanistan.  The events, part of Operation Supply Drop’s national Veteran’s Day “8-Bit Salute to Veterans,” will be held in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and New York City on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012. Gamers everywhere are invited to participate.

Captain Stephen “Shanghai Six” Machuga, a former Army Airborne Ranger, founded Operation Supply Drop in Nov. 2010, after serving for eight years with the US Army, including 13 months in Iraq.  An avid video game player himself, Machuga realized that many soldiers who are gamers don’t have access to their favorite form of entertainment, one of the few types of leisure activity permitted in high threat areas of deployment.

“When soldiers aren’t outside the wire on patrol, they’re playing video games,” explains Machuga. “Our packages are an immeasurable morale booster for the soldiers; troops are accustomed to getting care packages from strangers full of baby wipes and socks.  Our care packages are designed to blow their socks off.”

Since the charity’s establishment, Operation Supply Drop has raised more than $60,000 in games and gear each with an average value of $2,000 to units deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan.

With the help of a variety of allied gaming organizations, Operation Supply Drop’s “8-Bit Salute to Veterans” will be one of the country’s largest efforts undertaken in support of Veteran’s Day.  Join one of these groups on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012.
