Kameo Was Almost on the Original Xbox

kameo, xbox, rare

Remember that Xbox 360 launch game Kameo: Elements of Power? Yeah, we barely remember it either. For those out of the loop, Kameo takes Legend of Zelda‘s Link with boobs and has her transform into various creatures to save a fairy kingdom. Or something like that anyway.

Anyway, the story here is that Kameo was originally meant to be on the original Xbox. NeoGaf user Borman posted some footage of the game on his YouTube channel, and guess what? We have that video right here for you.

Oh, by the way that video is like 40 minutes long. It’s cool. We don’t expect you to watch the whole thing. It’s the thought that counts, right?

We told you last week that ex-members of Rare (developers of Kameo) are planning a spiritual successor to Banjo-Tooie. It’s good to know the team behind games like this isn’t totally stuck with Kinect and avatar rewards crap. Maybe someday Kameo will get a follow-up too. There was that cancelled sequel.

I’d love to see a re-boot/sequel to Kameo. Skylanders is almost unopposed right now. Where is Rare? I loved Kameo, Viva Pinata, Viva Pinata TiP, and the Banjo Kazooie games. There is a market for these games and Rare had a knack for making them.
If the people behind those games want to make “spiritual successors” to them, I’m game.

It’s funny – platformers dominated the 90′s, FPS’s rose in the 00′s, and now the casual market is taking off. I just want those Rare platformers back! DK64, Banjo Kazooie, Conker’s Bad Fur Day…these are absolute gold!
