I guess Square Enix couldn’t let their latest IP lie, am I right? Anyway, thanks to Kotaku, Sleeping Dogs will receive some spooky DLC on October 30th. Before I go on, do yourself a favor and grab a glass of liquid. In the past, the DLC leading up to the end of October has been meaningless cosmetic changes and some new car for Wei Shen play with, no actual substance for those finished the game. Coinciding with Halloween, Hong Kong will fight with the forever in slumber enemy of the undead!
Now that you’re wiping the liquid off your screen, we can talk about what the hell is going on in Hong Kong. Sleeping Dogs’ newest add on called Nightmare in Northpoint, will explore Hong Kong’s vast cinematic history with zombies. Sure United Front actually said “explore other aspects of Hong Kong cinema,” but It gets sillier. The Nightmare will be around a central horror-themed game mode, baring similarity to John Marston’s “Undead Nighmare.”
As strange as it sounds, I could imagine rugged cowboys shooting zombies in a bizarro world of Red Dead Redemption, that’s equally creepy and comedic. However, in a game where it’s not about guns? It’ll be hard to bring zombies in to fulfill the horror theme United Front is desiring to do with Sleeping Dogs. It’s quite comical when you include the amount of gore and limb loss involved with zombies, while smashing their brains out on car doors. Come to think of it, Sleeping Dogs apes the combat of the recent Batman: Arkham games. It could only mean imagining the Dark Knight doing a 40+ combo bouncing between zombies. There’s something to brighten your day at least.
Will you be able to see how zombies can fit in the story of an undercover cop? Need a refresher on what this game is? Check out our of Sleeping Dogs review.
