The new Evil Dead movie, coming out in 2013, has had fans both excited and concerned at the same time. Who doesn’t like the notion of their favorite movie being brought back to the present and re-introduced to a new generation of fans? Sometimes reboots get it right on the money, like Rise of the Planets of the Apes, Star Trek, and Karate Kid. However, sometimes it’s really just a simple cash-in. There’s no care put into it, and it’s just a case of a company wanting to make money. For example TMNT, Psycho, and Godzilla.
There was a lot of fear that Evil Dead would end up being a disappointment and that this was a simple cash in too. However, after viewing this trailer released by Sony Pictures, trust us when we say this is not the case. The Evil Dead reboot is for real.
Wow, where do we begin? Number one, it’s very surreal to see a Deadite with modern make-up, like night and day. As much as we love the old school Evil Deads, the goofiness of the Deadites’ look was one of the many reasons people started to laugh at it. There is nothing funny about this Evil Dead, and that is a great thing. The Deadites are also more insane, especially with the money shot of the girl cutting her own tongue in two.
There are also little homages to the older movies. For instance the super fast zoom in the forest is very iconic. We also get one of the Deadites tell the other humans that they will all be dead by morning. In other words, “Dead by Dawn!”. Next, the shot of what we assume is the main character cutting off her own arm after it goes bad. Finally, we got some tree rape. Yup, Evil Dead is alive and well.
