Operation Supply Drop’s “8-Bit Salute to Veterans” Raises Nearly $60000 for the Troops!

Well, it’s all said and done. All the months and months of planning and emailing has finally come and gone, and the veritable flood of donations for Operation Supply Drop’s Veteran’s Day weekend event, the first annual “8-Bit Salute to Veterans” has gone from a flood to a trickle.  Now it’s time to share the final tallies of donations, pictures of our live events, and most importantly, pictures of the care packages heading to Afghanistan, complete with inventories!

First and foremost, over the course of our donation campaign for the event:

CASH DONATIONS: $9,152.11
PHYSICAL DONATIONS (valued at:) $48601.72
GRAND TOTAL: $57753.83

So, in essence, the Operation Supply Drop’s “8-Bit Salute to Veterans” nearly doubled the amount of donations OSD raised in two years in approximately a solid month worth of good-natured panhandling. Of note, $15000 of that was donated by Bohle Company, the folks who help run PR for Penny Arcade, in the form of a three-month PR campaign, notifying major city publications and blogs of our event. I think Operation Supply Drop landing on the front page of NBCNews.com on Veteran’s Day shows the kind of power a good PR campaign can generate.

Wanted to take a second to thank all of our big ol’ donors who filled up the majority of our coffers and care packages for the events. Most of these donations were gear to fill up care packages and convention swag like shirts and hats, but every now and again, we got a nice little check from someone.

However, the big heroes this year are from over at Tripwire Interactive, who donated 10% of the sales of every “Ash Harding” premium character from Killing Floor through October and November to the cause, which turned into quite a hefty chunk of change (man, this explains why Riot Games owns half of Los Angeles for all the League of Legends skins they sell…).  The big piece is they didn’t want anything in return: they knew specifically that OSD typically sends Xbox consoles and not PCs with loaded Steam accounts full of their games, but they were perfectly fine with that and just loved the cause of getting troops video games when they could use them the most.

Picture fun time!  We got a variety of snaps from all of our live events over the course of the donation period, here’s as many pictures as we were able to squeeze out from our city teams!

Unlike some organizations, we don’t stop when Veterans Day was over; we’re a 24/7/365 operation over here at Operation Supply Drop when it comes to supporting the Armed Forces.  Therefore, it’s not time to rest on our laurels yet, we’re gearing up for our second annual Holiday push, Santa Actual 2, where we push out a care package a week through Christmas!  If you’d like to help out, here are four ways you can donate:

1) Use the Chipin link on the front of Front Towards Gamer.com.  OR
2) Use the Chipin link on the front page of Operation Supply Drop.org.  OR
3) Make a Paypal donation to donations@operationsupplydrop.org.
4) If you don’t want to send cash, you can simply send your used games or gear to the following address to make the next care package:

Operation Supply Drop
9301 Alvyn Lake Circle
Bristow VA, 20136

You know, and even if you can’t donate, just help get the word out on Twitter, Facebook, and other various social media links!  You help out and it costs you nothing but a few seconds of your time!

And to make it “fall off a log” simple, I’ll post up the Chipin link right here.  Thanks everyone!
