The national level media attention Operation Supply Drop got over Veterans Day for the nationwide 8-Bit Salute to Veterans over Veteran’s Day was a boon and a curse at the same time. OSD immediately was flooded with requests from video game hungry deployed units, each with their own sob stories of entire battalions full of soldiers sharing a single black and white television in the day room.
As there are only twenty four hours in a day and we at Operation Supply Drop do have to spend some of those hours eating, working regular jobs, and oh, yeah, PLAYING VIDEO GAMES, we’re going to do our best here at Operation Supply Drop to attend to all these desperate soldiers in need as best we can.
So, Operation Supply Drop is going to be doubling up care package requests each month until we get a handle on this. We’ve been getting a request every 2-3 days since November, so we’ve got some serious digging to do, but again, we’ll do the best we can, with priority going to units who are deeper in the fight than others.
Here are two such units!
ISIS AGENT 1:
We are currently deployed to Afghanistan in support of the war on terrorism. I manage the communications for the camp where I am and also I try to help in any way I can to boost the morale of the guys I am attached to which is a Special Forces group. This unit is the best at what they do and they never complain about a single thing. I want to try to get these guys something special to show my appreciation. I have asked at random what the guys would like to have here on camp as we are in the middle of nowhere. Most of us all agree to a little gaming room to take our minds off of the mission and to help relieve some stress is more than enough. I am so glad to find sites like this one that show even the tiniest bit of support to service members as this can be hard to come by. We are greatly appreciative of anything that you can send to us as we are not very picky.
Ah, Special Forces? Nice! They’re as forward in the fight as you can get, let’s get these boys some toys!
ISIS AGENT 2:
My fiancé and his battalion just deployed from Joint Base Lewis McCord to a very remote FOB in Afghanistan for a long deployment. They are literally out in the middle of the mountains (which I’m sure you know how that is out there!) and are trying to get their hands on some gaming equipment to keep morale up and let off some steam after they get back from a mission. Allow me to brag about my guy for a minute…..he’s an Air Assault, Airborne, Army Ranger who takes really good care of his soldiers and always puts their needs and comfort before his own. They have extremely limited access to email/phones right now and are just getting things set up for the long haul.
Fellow Stryker from 2nd Infantry Division, and an Airborne Ranger too, so you know we have to get them set up!
