Vince McMahon Should Buy THQ

THQ announced that it will be auctioning off some of it’s titles on January 22, 2013. This is, of course, was due to the financial troubles that the company has recently fallen under. This has, of course, lead to speculation and interest from much bigger companies looking to buy out some of THQ’s bigger IPs. So, you will hear the names of EA, Activision, and Warner Bros. to buy these titles. However, let’s add one more name to that list, Vince McMahon.

Vince McMahon

Yes, that Vince McMahon, the guy who is often characterized as a bloated, egomaniacal, doofus is exactly what THQ needs.

Why Vince McMahon?

What people forget about Vince McMahon is that he is one of the smartest business men of our generation. Before taking over World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF), Wrestling wasn’t just niche; it was different from region to region. If you grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, there is a chance that you would never see a wrestler who wrestled in New York, or San Francisco. However, once Vince McMahon took over (and renamed the organization World Wrestling Federation) he took these small regions and made them into one large conglomerate, to the point where it’s the only nationally known wrestling organization to date.

But why does it matter? Well, not only is Vince concerned about being the only wrestling game in town, he wants to run all the media he can. Recently, Mr. McMahon has tried to start his own Cable channel, albeit with some hiccups, and is still looking to complete that task. He has also started his own movie studios, which started by using his own brand of wrestlers, now is actually just a regular studio working with regular actors. So taking over a game studio wouldn’t be a problem.

The fact that THQ owes the WWE 45 Million Dollars isn’t something to overlook at all. Vince McMahon is not known for being level-headed about things that make him mad, and this could be another reason to buy the properties. While it’s fairly certain that WWE franchise will stay within the company (it’s doubtful that WWE will allow anyone else to own the franchise again), it’s wouldn’t be shocking that WWE would get the rest of the franchises as sort of payback for what happened between them and THQ.

Also, it makes sense. As a video game company, you spend so much money trying to advertise your products to a certain demographic. Well, with WWE you have over 7 hours of television weekly to advertise to, attempting to reach the same demographic that the show it’s self is trying to reach.

Again, many people will see this and think that it’s a joke. However, Vince McMahon owning THQ could be the life blood that the company needed. If he’s past is any indication, THQ could rebound and become stronger then it’s been in a while. Let’s just hope that it’s not like the XFL.

Interesting read. But you fail to mention that Vince knows how to branch off with his product, example WWE Films. I do 100% agree that Vince should have some level of ownership of THQ. From what I heard that the Bankruptcy court is going to allow buys to buy parts of THQ, If that’s the Case, then Vince can buy out his portion to keep the WWE wrestling games in house, and maybe evn have movie tie in games with WWE Films.
