Some of us at Front Towards Gamer have been hit with League of Legends Fever over the last couple of months, and amongst all the updates, patches, and new Champioins, Riot is looking to bring an official League of Legends client to Macs everywhere. Mac users compared to PC users are a small, vocal minority, and have been chomping at the bit to see an official League of Legends *anything* headed their way. See, to get League of Legends working on a Mac before, you had to download it through a third party client. That means that updates available through the PC version would have to be syphoned through this third party client before you could get it. But, Riot’s been hard at work on fixing this issue.
“To make this happen, we’ve been hard at work: Riot engineers re-wrote a lot of the underlying game engine so that both PC and Mac platforms share the same code base and assets. This means Mac players will receive all future features, bug fixes, and new content at the same time as PC users.” says Riot Games’ Steve “Udyr” Mieczkowski.
Basically, they’re doing what Steamplay games do on Steam – make one code that will work for both platforms. A godsend to people who have access to a PC and Mac, or even a Mac computer exclusively. No longer will you have to rely on the iffy Wineskin system, essentially emulating the game, to get your League on. But don’t expect perfection – it’s still in beta. This means that Riot is utilizing the Mac community to find various bugs and glitches, and in due time, we’ll see the real deal. A link on instructions for downloading the client and what it entitles you to has been posted here, so dive right in, Mac players, and see what all the fuss is about!
