Game music snobs, rejoice! The original composer for the Donkey Kong Country series, David Wise, is returning to the series in the upcoming Wii U title Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. The newest entry in the Donkey Kong Country series was announced earlier today at the Nintendo Direct stream. The reveal was met with a lukewarm reception, but this is exactly the kind of news that will get the hype train rolling. Donkey Kong Country features some of the best game music of all time, and with Wise’s return, things are definitely looking up for Tropical Freeze, which is slated for a November 2013 release.
The game’s set to come out this November, and I’m expecting good things, as Donkey Kong Country Returns was a wonderful treat on Wii and on 3DS. There were some missing pieces of the puzzle on top of some questionable designs, one of them being the music. Much of it was remixed and reused Donkey Kong Country tracks to begin with. It’s telling that Wise’s work has resonated with Nintendo enough to reproduce it for DKCR. It also tells how fantastic his music ended up being. Don’t just take my word for it, here’s a couple jingles from the man himself.
